The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas, sets a foundation for rich discussion about systemic racism, police brutality, mass incarceration, the Black Lives Matter movement, the battle for justice, white privilege, activism in contemporary America, and diverse family structures. Martha Brackeen-Harris, former director of Community Outreach at Renbrook School, will lead this discussion. A classroom teacher and administrator, her work has focused on issues of diversity to make educational communities places where all members feel included in the fight towards equity and justice. Ask questions and join the conversation. Suggested for mature middle school students, high school students, and adults. Borrow a copy of the book at the Circulation Desk.
