    Position Overview

    The Station Manager leads Simsbury Community Media, a nonprofit community media station, ensuring operational excellence, strategic growth, and community engagement. This multi-faceted role blends production and technical expertise, creative programming and content strategy, infrastructure development, and nonprofit stewardship. The Station Manager reports directly to the SCM Board of Directors and serves as an active member of the Board Committees, driving results collaboratively.

    The Station Manager works closely with citizens, town officials, and community organizations to produce individual and special interest programs. As a primary representative of SCM, the Station Manager strengthens the organization’s presence and relationships within the community.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Broadcast and Digital Operations: Oversee making all new programs (including live streams) available for on demand viewing on SCM’s YouTube channel as well as handle program scheduling and distribution on Comcast Local Access channels (3).
    •  Manage all technical facilities, including equipment deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and the modernization of production, editing, and broadcasting infrastructure.
    • Website & Digital Presence: Participate in the development of the new SCM website and YouTube channel. Manage content and ensure effective presentation on these and other digital platforms.
    • Grant Writing & Fundraising: Identify, pursue, and secure diverse funding opportunities, including grant writing and development initiatives.
    • Content Strategy & Promotion: Oversee programming and promotional content production. Lead the creation and distribution of the SCM monthly newsletter.
    • Regulatory & Policy Engagement: Serve as liaison with agencies such as Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), ensuring compliance and proactive engagement with evolving regulations.
    • Volunteer & Committee Leadership: Actively participates on SCM Committees. Recruit, train, supervise, and support volunteers and part-time staff, creating a culture of collaboration and skill-building.
    • Community Outreach & Partnerships: Build and nurture partnerships with local organizations strengthening civic engagement and community impact through outreach and collaborative initiatives.
    • Strategic Planning & Reporting: Prepare and present monthly Station Manager reports summarizing programming highlights, special events, performance metrics, and user data.
    • Other Leadership Functions: Take on additional station duties and leadership functions as needed to support the evolving mission and operations of SCM.

    Qualifications

    • Proven experience in all aspects of video/audio studio and field production, with technical proficiency in modern broadcasting equipment and software.
    • Demonstrated success in creative programming, content strategy, and increasing viewership across digital and broadcast platforms.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
    • Experience with website content management, social media, and digital marketing.
    • Ability to successfully fundraise, write grants, and steward business sponsorships.
    • Ability to lead, motivate, and collaborate with volunteers, committees, and staff.
    • Comfort working with regulatory bodies and public policy matters.
    • Community engagement, partnership building, and public speaking experience strongly preferred.

    Employment Details

    • Full-time: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday (occasional evenings as needed with flexibility.)
    • Salary range: $50,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience.
